Hello and Welcome to Lotus Village Project. We hope that as you browse through the site you will be inspired to help us provide Compassionate Aid Through Direct Action.

  Our Mission

Our mission is to help alleviate the extreme conditions which dire poverty inflicts and to help those afflicted with disease, hunger, malnutrition and poor living conditions in rural areas.

January 2010
After the devastating earthquake in Haiti, LVP decided to offer assistance outside of a region where we usually work. We provided a $1000 donation to Partners in Health for medical supplies for their field hospitals outside Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

October 2009
LVP returns to Ghana and distributes aid to two orphanages and completes a major Fight Malaria campaign. We were able to provide food, books, and toys to two orphanages and distributed 1000 malaria nets after receiving funding from one of our partners.

September 2008
With rains falling and crops planted this summer, we are pleased to announce the end of our one year food distribution program during the northern Ghana famine of 2007-2008. We distributed 11 tons of millet to rural villagers in the north of Ghana affecting over 10,000 people!

  Who We Are:

Lotus Village Project (LVP) is an international aid organization started in 2005 by Johan and Tracy Wulfers in conjunction with their Fair Trade company, Ojoba Collective, which works directly with rural village artisans in West Africa.

  What We Do:

- We focus on remote rural villages and other vulnerable groups who have been largely overlooked by their governments or other aid organizations.

- We work directly in villages with local people deciding together what the most pressing issues are and how to address them.

- We operate strictly as volunteers and 100% of all outside donations go to project development. In addition, our sister company, Ojoba Collective, gives 10% of its year-end profits to LVP to fund projects and cover any administrative expenses.

  Why It Works:

- Our extensive experience on the ground in developing countries through volunteering, organizing cooperatives, and working in rural villages has allowed us to bridge the cross-cultural divide that exists today. By building trust, understanding, and mutual respect; we lay the foundation for a successful project later.

- We never enter a new locale with a set agenda in hand. We remain open, and let the real situation of local people on the ground shape what projects are needed and how they will be implemented.

- We have overcome the “distribution problem” prevalent in developing countries by being directly involved in every aspect of implementation and distribution, and by training and inspiring local village volunteers to be involved in the process.

- Since we are 100% volunteer run, we have extremely low overhead. Our experience has shown that even the smallest amount of money in this country can have a profound effect in a poor country when it is used directly and efficiently.

  Our Guiding Principles:

-In accordance with the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we agree that no human being should have to live in extreme poverty without access to adequate food, clothing, clean water, shelter, basic healthcare and education.
-Recognizing that our lives are inter-dependent with the lives of others, we feel that it is our responsibility as fellow human beings not to turn a blind eye when others go without these basic human rights.
-While all of our projects address un-met material needs; we recognize that there are also countless non-material benefits on all sides when people connect with each other in a spirit of generosity, mutual respect and understanding with a desire to create a better world.

We rely on your kindness and financial support to help make our projects successful and we welcome any and all support. It is not the size of the gift; but the volition of the person giving that is most important. We are a registered charitable association in Washington State (IRS EIN # 65 – 1309543), and all donations are completely tax deductable.
